How To Port Your Number To A Different Service Provider

 

If you have been calling a landline or wireless phone line and have been getting no good reception, you may have to learn how to port your number to another company. Many companies have been successful in helping people get rid of their old telephone service providers. The process of porting your number to another company is actually very easy. In fact, you can do it yourself in as little as thirty minutes, depending on how long it takes for your connection to be established.

To begin, you will have to decide if you would like to port your number to a new service provider. If you already have a new service provider, all that you will have to do is advise them of your desire to port your number. In many cases, this can be done for free. In other cases, your old service provider will give you a call and tell you what you need to do in order to have your number successfully ported to their service.

There are also two different service providers who offer this porting option. You can call them and speak to one of their representatives who will walk you through the entire process. They will tell you when your number will be available for porting and when it will be. In some cases, you can have your number activated immediately once your porting request is received. This is especially helpful if you have recently moved.

Once you have determined whether or not you want to port your number, you will have to purchase a porting kit for this purpose. These kits generally cost about $25 and are usually shipped to you in a plain white envelope. You will fill out a standard customer acquisition form that asks basic questions about your name, address, mobile phone and other relevant information. Then you fill out the mobile service provider’s porting form. This process typically takes about five to ten minutes.

Once the agents receive your completed porting forms, they will contact you via phone or email. Be sure to respond to each of these messages quickly so you don’t put everyone off, as this is an important part of getting your service activated. When you have agreed to port your number, they will inform you of when your account will be activated. You should be able to log into your account right away with your new customer acquisition form.

If your mobile phone provider does not offer this convenient method of porting your number, you may be able to use VoIP instead. VoIP works by allowing you to make calls using your computer instead of your mobile phone. You will likely need to purchase a special adapter to do this which is not included with most VoIP services. But because VoIP works over the internet and not through a phone line, your calls will be much less expensive than your landline call costs. So if you’re looking to save some money and port your number to another company, VoIP is a great option.
